That was so interesting, Patty-somehow I'm not surprised that parades etc are haunted, and yet, why would a spirit do that? To revisit a happy time and place perhaps? It's another place I'd like to visit one day! Fly Right

If any "event" should have ghosts, Mardi Gras should be it. There are more deaths in New Orleans during Mardi Gras than at any other time. Some of them are accidents, some are bodies found in the river, people are robbed, mugged, murdered, etc.

From 1971 - 1975 I lived in Hammond, LA, which is a relatively short drive from New Orleans, and for much of that time we went down to N.O. about once a month or at least every other month. The first 2 years we went to Mardi Gras, but during the 2nd one a little boy got killed and we saw it happen. He ran out to get some candy but he was between the tractor pulling the float and the float itself, so the guy driving the tractor never saw him. He fell and the float wheel ran right over his head and crushed it. He was only maybe 3 years old or something like that. We never went back to Mardi Gras after that.

WOW, Heike, what a terrible experience!

I do agree with you that the Mardi Gras would seem to have more ghosts than any other event. What has me wondering is why would ghosts come back to a parade? smiley5

Oh Heike, how absolutely terrible! I completely understand why you've never been back. Sad

Yeah, you were probably one of the doper guys who made fun of me and my geeky friends ... Laughing

I went to Hammond Jr. High for 9th grade and Hammond High School for 10th, 11th, and 12th and graduated from there. But you'd remember if you knew me .. my last name was different but I was darn sure the only 'Heike' in Hammond. Wink My Dad taught ROTC at SLU and my Mom worked for Elmer's candy in Ponchatoula. I went to my 30 year reunion in '05 .. what a trip! There were at least a dozen people who sought me out to apologize for the way they treated me in high school. One of them is a minister now and he informed me that he's been praying for me all these years hoping that I turned out okay in spite of them. He was so relieved that I'm still alive and not a mental case or anything! ROFL
