Ok this happened before my partner went into hospital..

we were going to bed, as normal i turned the tv off and went to get some water.. turned the light out, when i saw a shooting star and my partner complained of indigestion...
so shes sat upright when she whispers theres a green glowing light in the middle of the telly, and it was at that point a shape appeared on the telly in grey... to me it looked like a skull, to my partner something different...
i went right up to it and i couldnt understand where the light was coming from.
It was at this point the tv crackled and went bang, by this time my partner was under her quilt telling me to deal with it...
so i was forced to wake her mum up to calm her down, while i turned the tv on, and off again...
and again the light appears in a different place and soon after a image appeared - to me this time it looked like a gun... it took 10 mins for it to disappear after the electricity was removed... all while my partner was going though all the dead people she knows to see if it was them...

we still dont understand what happened, any ideas?

I'm at a loss with this one! Firstly, does the tv still work? Just want to make sure it's not faulty.

Is this an older TV?

According to my knowledgeable husband, this happens a lot with older TVs. The TV cracking sound would have been high voltage. There's a tremendous amount of voltage (20,000 - 50,000) voltage in that picture tube. Sometimes when you turn off the TV, there can be a discharge (a spark jumping from the picture tube to the high-voltage transformer or somewhere even within the picture tube), but Jim doesn't know why it only happened the one time. He also says that in the dark, it is not unusual to be able to continue to see a picture on the screen - should be brightest in the center of the screen, although this should only last for about a minute.

Is your partner okay? You say she is in the hospital?

Interesting info from Judy, there-perhaps a likely explanation, but it must have been scary, all the same. I hope your partner will be OK. Smile

Now that is strange! Not sure I have any answers for you, pornpica - but most probably there is a logical one somewhere.

sorry to learn that your partner has not been well - hope she is better soon.

That is a long time for a picture to showing after the set if turned off. If it isn't an older one I think I would put a towel over it at night.

Do hope your partner is doing well.

Still looking for an answer to question, how old is the TV? It might not have turned off properly, leading to that pop and the residual picture.

I have no idea why that could occur on the TV. I do know however, that two days after my niece died, he mom and sister were trying to watch tv with a friend. They had it on just for something to try and stop them from thinking of their loss.

All of a sudden across the bottom of the screen XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO appeared. They ignored it at first, thinking that it was a test of the emergency broadcasting system. After a few seconds the XO's started to go across the bottom of the screen rapidly. No other words nor letters appeared. They changed the channel, it was still there, the more channels that they changed, the faster it went. My sister began to cry, because she thought that her daughter was trying to let her know that she was okay and she was with them. As soon as my sister acknowledged her daughter it stopped. It never happened again.

My niece signed her name with XOXOXOXOXOXOXO since she learned what it meant.

While the experience I wrote about happened while the tv was on, it is still unexplained scientifically. While we know that it was my niece others may discredit it as wishful thinking...

I am sorry about your partner, and I hope all turns out well. Good luck, and I hope you find an answer for your TV experience.

Yes it does sound odd. I think I'd be inclined to do as Thunder suggests and throw a towel over it ... or better still, throw it out! LOL

That sounds very worrying about your partner ... best wishes to her!

Jenn, your tv account sounds like the paranormal at its best! What a fantastic message to recieve! I can imagine how upsetting it must have been for your family at the time, but it must also have provided them with some comfort too.

Pornpica, hard to know whether this was just a button malfunction or something on the level of weird. I don't want to minimize your experience. You were there! I hope your partner's health improves, but I wouldn't worry about the TV unless it starts doing it again. If it was a mechanical malfunction, chances are it will eventually do it again, I guess. If it starts doing that crackle bang thing again, I think I would have it looked at. You've got electricity flying around in there. And buttons on appliances are prone to wear. You could be turning it off, but it might not be turning off properly.

or, it could be something weird is going on. If so, I hope that was it and it is over.

The xoxoxo experience, now that cannot be explained away by transformers and faulty buttons.
